PAC Meeting

Monday, February 27th

7:00pm

 

Attendees: Kristen, Colleen, LJ, Shawne, Charissa, Jenn, Teg, Aniela, Lisa, Florence, Billie and other parents

 

  1. Welcome and Introductions
  • Round table intros were done 
  1. Review and Approval of Agenda
  • Approved by Billie
  1. Review and Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
  • Approved by Teg and seconded by Colleen Reid
  1. Treasurer Report
  • Billie reviewed the budget and current account balances. She noted that the year-end Jericho field trip bus fee ($1800) was accounted for as part of the class field trip allocation.  This dropped the field trip fund per class down to $130, instead of the historical $250. 
  1. Admin Report

Carnaval:

  • Mr. Maika and Mr. Jang made poutine and deep-fried Oreos; huge success and kids had a great time
  • Community Fridge:
    • Student Affordability Fund used to order food via Instacart (yogurt, cheese strings, no sugar applesauce, milk, apples, oranges, bananas, fishy cracker, tuna snackpak); shift to fruit and veggies and away from cheese strings, yogurt tubes
    • Parents need to chat with their kids to teach that it is for those who NEED it; learning curve for kids; a bit of misunderstanding re: kids helping themselves to snacks because they want vs. need
  • Dixon Pride:
    • Students name two adults at the school who care about them
  • In Collab time: Truth and Reconciliation – students pulled out to learn about our land
    • Creating a beaded timeline
  • Kindness Week:
    • Focus on social responsibility within the school
  • Extra Curricular:
    • Boyd/McMath basketball tournie; Pokemon club; lots going on
    • Tuesday March 28th, grade 7 parent meeting at school to get organized for the year book
    • Track Attack (gr. 3-7) learn about track events (no Track Club this year); we’ll go to one track meet
    • Iride: 3 days of bike riding lessons (gr. 4-6) where kids bring own bikes/helmets and learn to ride
    • Mme. Kaeren’s class learn to swim (Div.8) as a practice run for larger program
    • Lots of field trips
  • Seismic Update – held up in approval stage/no update
    • Band will be relocated to portable pod in April
    • They’ll be doing the upgrade here/ventilation
  • Clothing Borrowing/Lending Cupboard
    • Anyone have any gently used donations? Items can be dropped off at the office.
    • Aniela volunteer to help (hang items and line up items) and she’ll make a big sign
    • Rack located in EA Hallway near McLeod’s room
    • Kids can borrow or take if needed (outdoor clothing/boots; grades 1-3 pants and shirts)
  • Ms. Mennie coming back; Mr. Burrows is teaching music and will teach recorders and hopefully ukes (hence the ukuleles); Long and McQuade has green ones; Boomwhackers are good entry-level instrument

 

Request for Funding

  • Musical Instruments; Long and McQuade has green ukeleles; Boomwhackers are good entry-level instrument. ($1800/30 for ukes; $200 for Boomwhackers = $2200 out of Operational Funds)
  • Field Trips (can school have more $ in the field trip allotment for buses); $3750 allocated from gaming account and half going to Field trip. $250/Div currently. Additional $1,800 for end of year bus trip to Jericho (out of operations fund)? Discussion ensued about how much to give and where to draw funds.
  • Teg Motion put forward to purchase the 30 ukes and boomwhackers: $2,200 to come out of Operational Florence approves; All in favour. Motion Approved.
  • Florence put forward motion AND $1,800 from Operation on Jericho Bus; seconded by LJ
  • LJ put forward a motion for additional $100/division from Operations ($1,500 additional) = $350/division PLUS Jericho; Aniela Seconded; All in favour and Motion Approved. [next year we do it PER STUDENT instead of per division]
  • Point of discussion: 28 ipads: $450/ipad $12,600/3 years = $4200 per year for three years and end of three years have no asset but then would update. Recurrent cost.
  • Jenn says thank you to Colleen/Kirsten and staff for all they do to make the kids experience at Dixon so great, especially with Basketball right now; gratitude to all staff

 

 

  1. Chair Report
  • PAC Bylaw Revision: Jenn sent docs to the team
  • PAC Executive and Committee Positions: call for nominations will be going out soon. Some volunteers will not be returning next year.

 

  1. Fundraising
  • Movie Nights are our primary fundraising; adding bake sale to it this year; Shawne will send out a call to McMath for 6 kids for an hour of volunteer hours from 5:30 set up (6:00 open doors; 6:30 movie begins; 7:30 intermission; 9pm) kids will be fed with pizza. Cheese and pepp. Aniela and Charissa and a list of names to Lisa at concession – Blue Leadership Shirts. Baked goods can be left in the kitchen. We’ll need more garbage bags/can and paper towels for clean up. Encourage recycling of the juice boxes. A big garbage can with bag for things to go to Recycle. Bring your own plates.
  • LJ will lend both Square machines.
  • Will need bigger signs to direct folks.
  • Neighbourhood Celebration grant was applied for the next school year; might be used for Pumpkin Run
  • May 5th Movie Night - Encanto
  • June 16th Movie Night (hopefully SuperMario) – meet after Spring Break to chat about it.

 

  1. Lunch Days Update
  • The hot food volunteers are not available at all for the back end work any longer. Lisa will stay until the end of the year but we really need to find people to help with Hot Food Lunch volunteer Back end work. Will need help – counting cash on-site, etc.

 

  1. Qs and Ds
  • Colleen asked about the grad assembly – is it possible to have the week before the end of school? June 28th is assembly. (Last day of school is 29th)
  • Kirsten will bring up the date change in the May planning meeting.
  • PAC funds $1,000 to the grad yearbook, etc.
  • Square machine purchases pushed to April 17th meeting
