DIXON PAC MEETING MINUTES 

Tuesday, February 10, 2026

Welcome & Introductions

- Call to Order: 

- 6:32 pm called to order 

- Quorum has been met per current bylaws 

- Teg gives a Land Acknowledgement to thank the hǝn̓q̓ǝmin̓ǝm̓ speaking peoples on whose land we live (over 16 different groups that travelled along our neighbourhood); recognizing the traditional lands of the Coast Salish peoples and reflecting on continued learning and awareness.

Admin Report

  • Mike welcomes Mme Mirhosseini who teaches grade 1/2 French immersion 
  • Many parents are continuing to register for continuing ed and summer school, informing parents to already have an account made as these courses get booked up quickly
  • Talent show is next week; big thank you to Ms Evans and staff
  • Mr Bradley’s class is finishing up swimming lessons this week and have been using public transit
    • What is the cost for the busses compared to the cost of taking public transportation
    • Hoping to get parents for k/1 and grade ½ classes to assist with driving
    • Busses come to $2800
  • New lights are going up in the gym and new footing outside the gym wall, near the old office area
  • Should be able to get back into the gym next week and the gym floor will be used for storing gym material week before spring break
  • Prior to spring break there will be a call out to grade 7 parents for yearbook and grad events
  • The school district/provincial government/federal government will be funding a hot lunch for all students – once in March/April/May/June – choice of 2-3 items for parents to choose from; further instructions will be sent to parents and everything will be sent to the divisions and labeled by student names and senior students will help to distribute; will try to keep these on Thursdays to keep up with the current PAC hot lunch days
  • A parent asks about a temporary walkway
    • Nothing can be put there because of the amount of distance required for safety
  • Unitech will be repaving everything around the school
  • PAC will pay $1000 for the grade 7 yearbooks

 

Chair Report

  • Fundraising
    • Our objective for fundraising is all about community building and not just about raising funds
    • How are we adding value and contributing to the Dixon community
  • Most parents agree that any fundraising is great especially as parents have less time for events
  • Fundraising options to vote for:
    • Brad’s junk removal – return 10% - Dixon family – PAC voted no 
    • Return it bottle depot – PAC voted yes – Colleen will start this
    • Babysitting course for grade 6/7 – PAC voted yes 
    • Photo shoot with Above & Beyond Productions – 20 mins sessions for $99 and we could do a markup to the cost for fundraising; customers will receive 20-30 digital images – PAC voted no
    • M&M fundraiser – choose one day and get 10% of profits – Dixon parent noticed this fundraiser on Facebook – PAC voted no 

 

Treasurer’s Report 

  • Gaming account just under $10,000 with one uncleared cheque for readers’ choice
  • General account balance $60,400 with $300 in uncleared cheque
    • Hot lunches have been paid for by the parents but vendors need to be paid still
  • Teachers have been discussing field trips and classroom spending
  • Jingle bell run came to $800 from the PAC budget 
  • Swimming lesson/transportation costs to be discussed
  • Got our Purdy’s cheque last month resulting in $1100 in profits
  • First movie night resulted in $400 in profits

RDPAC update

  • Been approached for feedback from the district
  • Matthew has been asked Dixon PAC budget priorities
  • Jenna has asked Mike to pass along the information that is being provided by the district which include the 2026-2030 strategic plan

Routine updates

Movie night

  • The next movie night will be Friday March 6 – Zootopia 2
  • Will find out if mats will be put back for the movie night
  • Another movie night in May

Hot lunch 

  • Judy is the newest hot lunch member and has been helping for a couple months
  • Smokehouse sandwich has closed and refunds were processed today 
  • TTOP has had good feedback, and we are hoping to get them instead of Smokehouse Sandwich 
  • It will be mentioned in the newsletter 
  • Reminder for parents: if your child does not receive their hot lunch, please have them come to the room where the PAC/hot lunch team is and they will get it sorted out

Spirit wear

  • Is there interest in Dixon spirit wear this time around?
  • Track meet will be this spring and we are unsure of the format; last year we were one of the pilot programs for the new format of track meet
  • More information to come at the next PAC meeting

Other Questions

  • Reading survey is being conducted with students and results will be shared at the next PAC meeting
  • There were 150 Readers’ choice entries
  • A parent asked if we have parent reps for the classrooms
  • The next book club book has been launched and there was a lot of interest in this club
    • Students are reading Safe as Houses by Eric Walters
