DIXON PAC MEETING MINUTES
Tuesday, March 10, 2026

Welcome & Introductions
-Call to Order:
- 6:33 pm called to order
- Quorum has been met per current bylaws
- Teg gives a Land Acknowledgement to thank the hǝn̓q̓ǝmin̓ǝm̓ speaking peoples on whose land we live (over 16 different groups that travelled along our neighbourhood); recognizing the traditional lands of the Coast Salish peoples and reflecting on continued learning and awareness.
- Review and Approval of Minutes from last meeting:
o Jenna moves the motion, Teg seconds, all approve
- Approval of Agenda: - Teg moves the motion, Colleen seconds, all approve
Admin Report
• Universal hot lunch program begins Thursday and can be ordered a week prior to the lunch date
• Mr. Huntson, band teacher, is asking for $150 to bring in Richmond honor band to come play at the school May 7th and it will be a presentation for the whole school
• Track and field date has been announced by school district, May 20 @ Minoru
o Track & Field meet will use the same format that Dixon used last year
• Eight Grade 7 parents have volunteered to help with Grade 7 events
• 26 of our students took extended breaks for holidays
o Teachers may find it difficult to properly assess these students and construct report cards
• Babysitting course
o A poll with Grade 6/7 students showed high levels of interest
o $75/student for 7.5 hours of instruction
o April 24
o Maximum 30 spots
• Laurel gives update on readers’ choice award and mentions that students get really into it and it’s been expanded this year to chapter books and graphic novels
• If a book gets damaged, parents/students don’t have to tape the book back together, Laurel will be able to repair it, just let her know
• Book club Update
o Last Friday, Safe as Houses was discussed, and connections were made to book/world/self/other texts
o 30 students and 7 staff members participated
o There was a pizza lunch
Chair Report
• Getting closer to AGM for the PAC
o There will be some changes to the upcoming PAC as Colleen will be stepping down from PAC Chair
• Traffic safety
o Lots of feedback received from parents and discussed at the school board meeting
o A request has been put in place with the City of Richmond and school board to get a sidewalk put in the length of Diamond Rd
• RDPA request for school board budget
o School board is having funding issues and is asking which budget priorities are important to us and the Dixon community? What area do you think the board should consider allocating more money to along with the strategic plan? What should they decrease funding for?
o Feedback is needed by March 31st
Treasurer’s Report
• Gaming account balance just under $10,000 with uncleared cheque for readers’ choice and young actors
• General account balance is $64,500 with about $6,900 of uncleared cheques
• Young actors’ workshop
o All divisions participated and Pac covered every division
• $1,900 was spent on swimming lesson transportation
• Charity return is mailed
• Gaming applications to open in April
Routine updates
• Hot lunch
o Lots of good feedback from the pizza factory lunch
• Movie Night
o Smaller than our first movie night with about fourty kids in attendance
o $285 raised
o Mats were out for this movie night
o Next movie night in May
Other Questions
• Buzz about school reopening in September and if the construction will be finished by then
o Unitech has been working on the front of the building and it will be torn down 3pm Friday
o They’ve been pouring the concrete for the seismic footings already there
o Library occupancy is expected for May o Classrooms in annex are expected to be moving first week of July
o Portables are going to be cleaned and locked and left in place
o Gym floor will be completed during the summer
There will be an extra water bottle filler in the gym
• Staff is the one who takes care of the friendship garden
